The Washington Pastoral Counseling Service (WPCS) is an interfaith, non-profit organization with a mission of providing low-cost mental health services to children, individuals, couples and families in the DC metropolitan area. Founded in 1961 by Foundry United Methodist Church, our counselors work with children and adults struggling with a range of issues including early childhood trauma, separation and divorce, spouse abuse and battering, mood disorders such as depression, behavioral and substance addictions, communication skill deficits, grief and abuse recovery.
Although we accept many insurance plans,we use our sliding scale frequently. We are located in eight houses of worship throughout the metropolitan area and aim to match clients with counselors in their community.
WPCS believes health and wholeness includes attention to all facets of our being: physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. Ideally all four areas
are in balance. Emotional upheaval from any cause throws things off-balance in other areas, often resulting in poor physical health and limited energy with which to heal. In addition to exploring emotional issues, we talk with our clients about the importance of good diet and regular exercise, adequate sleep and stress reduction. We offer the opportunity to address all areas, including spiritual beliefs about health and growth.
